Calderón denies ‘colombianization’ of Mexico

In a press conference with Spanish President José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero in Spain, President Felipe Calderón acknowledged some parallels with the situation in Colombia, but denied that Mexico was traveling the same path. “In Mexico we are acting in a very timely manner to avoid the kind of escalation in organized crime such as occurred, unfortunately, in brother countries such as Colombia. … Even though there are phases which may seem similar in their essence, we are confronting them … and we can resolve this issue in a much more rapid manner,” he said.
