Political spy ring cracked

The Justice Ministry announced that it had uncovered a ring of government security officials who were spying on the communications of political figures, principally in the PRI. Thirteen arrest warrants were issued for current and former officials in CISEN, Mexico’s security agency, and for an Israeli expert in electronic communications. The ring reportedly was able to monitor phone calls, emails, encrypted communications, and the contents of secured computers of PRI Senate leader Manlio Fabio Beltrones and former PRI secretary general Jesús Murillo Karam, among others. The investigation started more than one year ago when Beltrones filed a complaint alleging that confidential communications of his were being circulated. None of the 13 suspects has been arrested.  (Reforma 7/2)
